Digital journalist. Storyteller.

Hey there! My name is Emma Shew, and I’m a graduate of Appalachian State University’s digital journalism program with hands-on reporting and writing experience.

I am skilled at crafting compelling multimedia content through a variety of media channels, including text, video, and audio. I’m incredibly passionate about authentic storytelling that informs and entertains diverse audiences.

I currently work as an operations assistant for the Hunger and Health Coalition of Watauga County and freelance for magazines and newspapers on the side.

I have lived in Appalachia my entire life, and Appalachian culture and people will always be my absolute favorite thing to write about, research and explore.

When I’m not working or writing, I enjoy crocheting, fishing, playing the banjo and spending time with my friends and family.
